Building the Ground Plane Disk

This is our easiest kit to assemble and will give you a ground plane for your vertical antenna. Designed to be used portable with PAC-12 or PAC-7 antennas, it can also be used with Buddie poles and other portable antenna systems.

In the kit you will receive the disk, eight 4mm banana plus and sockets.

The first thing you will need to do is place each of the sockets through the disk holes and tighten. It does not matter which way up. The PCB is conductive on both sides of the board.

When you have fitted all eight you will now need to connect your favourite antenna wire to the banana plugs and you’re done.

The ground plane disk sits between your ground spike at the bottom of the antenna and your feed point, see below. If your feed point is elevated this system will also work as a hub for elevated radials.

We have used banana plugs so its super simple to use with cold hands.

As for the number of radials, we recommend a minimum of eight, at least a quarter of a wavelength long at your lowest band of operation. However, we have used four elevated radials (fantasic results, but they need to be tuned to the band of operation) and sixteen short radials or eight looped grounds radials with great results.
